iPhone 10mb download cap increased

Posted by Matthew Cawley under iPhone, News on Tuesday Feb 23, 2010

Hi All,

It’s been a while since my last post so time for a run of some updates.

American telephony company AT&T has increased the download cap from 10mb to 20mb as long as you are using AT&T’s EDGE or 3G connection. Even though thisĀ  will allow you to download larger files and a few more apps from the App store you will still need a WiFi connection for some padcasts and larger newspapers such as the NYT.

I’ve not heard any word on any of the UK companies following this cap increase yet but no doubt 02 will probably do it first as they have been there the longest. Vodafone will probably be last to follow suite as they don’t even offer unlimited internet with their packages yet, which I’m quite suprised at.

For now everone not in America on AT&T are still stuck with the good old 10mb for now.

Vodafone makes a huge leap on the iPhone cart.

Posted by Matthew Cawley under iPhone, News on Friday Jan 22, 2010

Hi All,

Vodafone has made a large leap onto the iPhone cart selling 100,000 iPhones in the first week since they started selling it. Despite being 2 years late to join the iPhone market a lot of users have obviously been waiting for vodafone to catch up and it shows.

Vodafone had orders for 50,000 iphone in pre-orders alone and sold another 50,000 in the first week of sale. Huge expectations are expected once Vodafone start selling the iPhone on PAYG aswell.

Vodafone’s UK, CEO Guy Laurence, declared in a statement that “The demand from both consumer and business customers has been phenomenal. They want an outstanding phone on an outstanding network and we’re delivering that.”
quoted from itproportal.com

It will be interesting to see who the big iPhone providers are in 6 months time from now, with Orange claiming to provide the best 3G cover in the UK, reputation that Vodafone has and the time 02 has had to build with their sales.

My top 6 free apps

Posted by Matthew Cawley under Apps, iPhone on Friday Jan 22, 2010

Hi all,

I thought I would share my current top 6 favourite free apps with you all including some information about each app. Clicking the name below will take you straight to the app store where you can download the app for free.

  1. Twitterrific – This is a awesome little app that allows you to monitor all of your tweets including the tweets of the people you follow. The app has a nice sleak interface which is very fast and easy to use. Definitely a recommendation for those twitter lovers out there.
  2. Zynga Live Poker – For those that have played Zynga’s Texas Hold ‘em poker on Facebook and enjoyed it, will love this even more. The iPhone version has had a nice graphical revamp compared to the Facebook version and plays extremely well. The app also links in with your Facebook account so you can challenge you friends and even post your achievements. Defo worth a look, even if you’ve never played the Facebook version.
  3. Numberstore – Now this app is a godsend to all those people who get charged for phoning freephone numbers from their mobile. With this app, all you do is enter your 0800, 0808 or 0500 number and it will convert it into a standard UK land line number (so UK users only I’m afraid). Because you are now phoning a UK land line number, the call is included in your free minutes (or if you have no free minutes, then you are charged at the standard land line number rate). Definitely and essential download even if you rarely phone free phone numbers. You’ll be happy you’ve got for that one time you do
  4. Shazam – For those moments when you are listening to your radio and a song comes on but you can’t remember the name and you know you’re going to spend the next 10 hours trying to remember, well no more with this app. With Shazam, all you need to do is tell the app to listen to the music for 10 seconds and like magic, you are given the artist, song name, album and even get a link to buy the song through iTunes. No more sleepless nights just because you can’t remember the song name or who it was by. It is also good for songs you’ve never heard of too by the way. Read More
